I am so excited this time of the year. All of our important Hindu festivals/holidays fall during this time. One of our most important festival Diwali is next week. That means lots of cleaning (spiritual as well as physical), lots of religious worshiping, lots of shopping, and lots and lots of cooking and eating. This year it is more exciting because Best Buy is recognizing the importance of Diwali and has announced their special Diwali e-Gift Card (click here) to celebrate the Festival of Lights.
If you are a regular on my blog then you have heard me talk and rave about Diwali. I have such fond childhood memories of this festival. Diwali is one of the most important festival/holiday for Hindus, Jains and Sikhs. It usually falls around mid-October or mid-November. This year Diwali starts on Nov 10th and ends on Nov 13th. Each day represents celebrations of different gods/goddess and cultural values.
Diwali is also known as the Festival of Lights, which represents “light over darkness”. It celebrates the triumph of inner light dispelling the spiritual darkness or ignorance. Most importantly it is a celebration of good over evil and right over wrong. You will find most Indian homes lit up to the max. We use traditional oil lamps known as diyas, floating candles and electric lights to deck up our homes. The more lights you have the better it is.
Diwali is also gaining popularity and becoming part of the local cultures in countries with huge Indian population such as Australia and Caribbean. Living in New Jersey, I can tell you we go all out during Diwali. This is our time to shop for our traditional Indian clothes and jewelry. This is our time to burst fire crackers and share sweets and treats with our neighbors and friends.
In India, this is also the time when you would also shop for the big-ticket items like refrigerators, TVs, washing machines, cell phones and so on. In fact “Diwali Sale” is a common theme around this time. This brings me back to Best Buy. I am so glad they have recognized this festival/holiday and given us an option of their Diwali e-Gift Card. It makes gifting during this season so easy and convenient. No matter where your family and friends are in US, all you have to do it go to the check out the Best Buy website and order a personalized Diwali e-Gift Card for them. This e-Gift Card will be available until Nov 15th, so that gives you enough time to order one.
Disclosure: I have been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free.
