Explanation of Ingredients
Tomatoes: red tomatoes are the main ingredient of this recipe. I like to use any variety of tomatoes for this recipe, as long as they are ripe. Red-ripe tomatoes have the right balance of tang and sweetness to them are perfect for this recipe.
Urad daal: is split black gram. This is added to add an earthy flavor and aroma to chutney. You can find them in Indian stores and online on Amazon.
Ginger and garlic: I use fresh ginger and garlic. It adds a nice aroma to the chutney.
Fresh green chili: For this recipe, I am using one green chili, as I want only a little bit of spice. You can use more chili if you want.
Tempering Ingredients: for tempering only 2 ingredients are required. One is the mustard seeds and the other is the curry leaves.
Sugar & Salt: Sugar is an optional ingredient. Read the FAQ below for more details.
