Spicy garlic bread is a crisp, buttery goodness flavored with garlic and parsley. This garlic bread is packed with so much flavor that you will never eat bread plain ever again.
You don’t need any special kind of garlic bread spices to make this recipe. You can find all of the ingredients in your kitchen or local grocery stores.
About the Recipe
Garlic bread is a classic Italian staple. You will find some versions of it served as a side with pasta dishes. I started making garlic bread after coming to the US. For this recipe, I use a soft loaf of bread like Italian or Cuban bread. However, as an Indian, I wanted to elevate this recipe some more.
I tried making it with chili powder for the touch of spice, but was not happy with the result. When I experimented with chili flakes, I found them to be perfect ingredient. The chili flakes not only complimented the garlic and parsley, but it also gave it the much needed heat.
It is absolutely easy to make and if you want to visually see how to make it, check out my YouTube video (click here) or the recipe card below.
Ingredients to Make Garlic Bread
The ingredients to make garlic bread are very simple and basic. Most of you will have it in your kitchen pantry. However, if you don’t have it, you can easily substitute it with fresh ingredients. See below for the description of the ingredients.
Bread: for this recipe I am using soft bread like Italian bread. I have also used Cuban bread to make this recipe and it has turned out great.
Butter: I use unsalted butter that I soften by leaving it on the countertop for sometime. You can use salted butter, but be mindful of adding extra salt later on.
Garlic Powder: I am using garlic powder for this recipe as it is easy and convenient. I don’t have to chop of mince tons of garlic. If you don’t have garlic powder, you can use fresh garlic cloves.
Chili Flakes: is the ingredient that adds heat to this recipe. I find that store-bought chili flakes have just the right amount of spice .. it not to spicy and not to bland.
Dried Parsley: is again a herb that is used to flavor the garlic bread. I like using dried parsley instead of fresh because they last longer and are convenient.
Salt: I use unsalted butter for this recipe and that is the reason I add salt. I did try making this with salted butter. However, it was lacking in salt as well. So it is really up to you as to how much salt you want to add.
