What is Rooh Afza
Rooh Afza is a concentrated rose-flavored syrup similar to Hershey’s strawberry syrup. It is popular in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh and is a must-have for Iftar during Ramadan. Rooh Afza means “Soul Refresher” (Wiki) in Urdu. Drinks made with Rooh Afza are considered cooling for your body and offer much-needed relief during the hot and humid summer days.
Growing up, my mom would make this drink for us during the summer. She preferred making it with water as a way to flavor water. I also remember this drink served at weddings and other events as a cheap and quick substitute for fruit juices.
What is Roof Afza Drink
Rooh Afza drinks are beverages that you can make in different ways. When you add Rooh Afza syrup to water, you get Rooh Afza Sharbat. When you add the syrup to milk, it is Rose milk. My younger one calls it pink milk because of its distinct color.

Roof Afza: is a rose flavored syrup that is the main ingredient in this recipe. You can find it in Indian grocery stores or on amazon. Roof Afza is a actually a brand name syrup. If you cannot find it, you can use other generic rose syrup.
Milk or Water: The rose concentrate is added either to water of milk. It is personal preference. I feel both of the drinks taste equally good. If you just want to quench your thirst, use it with water. If you want your dosage of calcium use it with milk.
Tulsi Seeds/Tukmaria: these are basil seeds and are quite unique. They are in many of Indian drinks for some added texture. These seeds are also available in India stores. They are black in appearance and when soaked in water become transparent around the edges. This ingredient is optional.
