Red Velvet Kiss Cookies is a chewy, yet melt in your mouth cookie recipe. It is quick to make and one of the easiest cookie recipes you will ever make. All you need is a couple of basic baking ingredients and Hershey’s Kisses and you have cookies that every child and adult will be equally craving for.
This is not my recipe. I found this recipe on Hershey’s website and this was made by my teen. They turned out really good and very impressive. She pretty much followed the same recipe, except added more vanilla essence. I am sensitive to the smell of the egg so, she remembers to add extra vanilla essence.

Some Helpful Notes to Make the Perfect Red Velvet Kiss Cookies
- Red Food Coloring: I love the vibrant red color of these cookies. So I used a full tablespoon of liquid food coloring. The more coloring you use the vibrant the color of the cookie is going to be. If you are not very particular about the color of the cookies, you can add less food coloring. During my research I also found out people use beet powder as a substitute for red food coloring. However, I have read mixed reviews of it on Amazon. I personally haven’t used beet powder, so cannot vouch for it.
- Egg Substitute: Anytime I make a cookie recipe, I am asked if the egg can be excluded all together. There are ways to exclude egg or substitute it with other ingredients. Since my teen made this recipe, she decided to stick to the original.
- Sugar for Rolling: The original recipe calls for the cookie dough to be rolled in sugar before baking. My teen however, did not want to use additional sugar. The cookie itself has enough sugar in it. On top of that the kisses are also sweet. She did not want an overwhelmingly sweet cookie.
- Freezing Cookie Dough: The best thing about this recipe is you don’t have to freeze the cookie dough like a lot of other cookie recipes. Once you are done with making the cookie dough and dividing into balls, you can immediately pop them in the oven for baking.
