My daughter wanted me to make her a monogrammed zipper pencil pouch. Since I was busy with all the back to school activities, I kept putting it off. Finally last weekend I was able to squeeze in some time. One of her condition was; she did not want it to be pink. I found this perfect blue turquoise fabric with a zigzag imprint on it. Luckily I had the matching lining, so that saved me a trip to the store.
Since this was the first time I was sewing a pouch with lining, I spent more time on it than I had anticipated. I wanted the pouch to be around 10″ x 6″, so I cut it to size adding 1/2″ allowance all around. Placed the outer fabric on one side of the zipper along-with the lining material on the other side of the zipper (zipper was sandwiched between the two fabrics) and sewed them together. Repeated this same step on the other side of the zipper too.
This is what it looked like on the front of the fabric.
This is the view of the lining part of it.
This next step was a bit tricky. Matching lining to the lining and the main fabric to the main fabric, I pinned and stitched all around on the wrong side, keeping an opening of about 3″ . I pulled the main fabric through this opening and sewed shut the 3″ opening.
Finally, I pushed the lining part and stuffed it inside the pouch. Added a monogrammed ‘T’ which I had made earlier from fucshia colored Felt and glued some rhinestones around it.
As she gushed about how much she loved it, she felt I should have embellished it more. I on the other hand disagreed and said I like to keep it simple. What do you think???
Anyway glad to report she took it to school this morning and I am pretty sure she will enjoy showing if off.
