It is Spring break, that means the girls are at home the whole day for a whole week. To keep them entertained and away from iPad and iPhone, I thought it would be great to make something that is easy, quick and fun. As I was not in the mood to do any shopping, I decided to make something with the supplies that were already there in my supply bin. I have tons of ribbons lying around and after a little bit of brain racking I decided to make earrings out of them. Check out below if you wish to make some ribbon earrings for yourself.
To begin with, I measured and cut out two strips of ribbons around 6″ in length.
For the purpose of this tutorial I used black thread but if you are making these earrings then do remember to use matching threads. I sewed a running stitched along one of the edges of the ribbon.
Once I was finished with the sewing, I pulled the thread to gather the ribbon.
After a bit of manipulation and some more pulling, I formed it into a floral shape. With the same thread I sewed couple of stitches in the center to secure it.
I then sewed a button in the center and glued a silver stud over the button.
To make it all neat and pretty, I cut out small blue felt circles and glued them on the back. Finally I added some earring hooks and the ribbon earrings were all ready for use.
Since I had so much fun doing this project, I went ahead and made two more pairs. Although I was happy with these earrings, I genuinely wish I had some grown-up patterned ribbons with me. The earrings would look really weird on me. On the other hand I think it is perfect for “T”. What do you think???
What a creative idea! Those earring would be great for younger girls.
Thanks Melinda. I think so too.
WOW! That was super easy! I will have to try these out soon!! I figured it would be harder than that to make those cute earrings! My 2 daughters would love them! Thanks for the post, I may have to link you up in one of my DIY round-ups soon, I haven’t done one in a while but these Ribbon Earrings have me thinking!! I’ll let you know if I decided to feature you!!!
Thank you Autumn for the suggestions of a DIY link up. It would be be great to be featured
Really cute and really original. I would think you could go nuts with different holidays too.
Thanks Pam and I completely agree about using holiday themed ribbons.
These are so creative and I love ribbon you chose.
Thanks Stacy
Thank you Stacy
These are so adorable! I am a horrible seamstress, but I think even I could manage these. Thanks for sharing.
Corrinne, these are really easy to make and I am sure if you got down to it, you have fun making them…
Oh My Gosh, these are too cute! I just love the earrings with the bright colors. I bet the girls had a lot of fun, I know I would.
Kristi and Cynthia, my older one loves to show off our collaborations at her school. She is already planning to make some for her friends during summer.
Those are adorable. I bet your daughter loves them and all her friends will want a pair. Your tutorial is well done.
How cute those turned out as earrings. I make bows for packages like that.
Thanks Terry
