Hot chocolate bombs are very trendy these days. You can see many tutorials on different platforms on how to make them. My daughter wanted to make the heart shaped chocolate bombs to give out to her friends for Valentine’s day. So here it is.
I promise you the recipe for making these hot chocolate bombs are very easy and once you make one, you will be addicted and won’t stop.
Ingredients you need to Make Heart Chocolate Bombs
- 1 cup of chocolate chips of your choice
- 1 packet of Hot cocoa mix
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup of surprise ingredients (mini marshmallows, heart sprinkles, candy pieces etc)
- Candy melts for piping decoration
You Will Also Need a Silicone Heart Shaped Mold
To make these heart chocolate bombs you need a heart shaped chocolate silicone mold. I bought mine online from Walmart. However, you can find these in Amazon and even Target.
How to Make Heart-Shape Hot Chocolate Bombs
In a microwavable bowl melt the chocolate chips. Start melting them for 30 seconds first and then for 15 more seconds until all the chips have melted.
Once the chocolate chips have melted, fill up the cavity with a spoonful of chocolate.
Next use the same spoon to completely coat the cavity of mold. Make sure to smooth it out especially around the edges. If required add some more chocolate. The edges, in particular, have to be thicker otherwise it will break or will have cracks.
Wipe away any access chocolate outside. Freeze for about 30 mins. Carefully remove them from the molds. You can set them on a cold plate (to avoid melting) until further use. However, since it is cold and we had a snow storm, I did not see the need to use cold plate.
Now you have to fill the each half heart. Fill it up with 1 or 2 tsp of cocoa powder and your surprise ingredients.
Heat a pan on very low flame or use a heated plate. Quickly place one half heart over it. As soon as the heart melts, connect both the pieces of heart together. The melted heart acts as a glue and holds both the pieces together. You can then decorate the top however you wish.
I melted some candy melts. Poured them into a zip lock bag and piped it over the heart bombs. I also made some heart bombs with white chocolate chips.
So you see how easy it is to make them. My daughter plans to individually pack them and give it out to her friends on Valentine’s Day.
How to use these Hot Chocolate Bombs
Place one hot chocolate bombs in a mug. Pour hot milk over it. This will melt the chocolate bomb. Stir it with a spoon. I am making a video which I will soon post here. So watch out for this space.
