About the Recipe:
This recipe for Goan Shrimp Cutlets are from Goa which is a coastal State in the Southern Western region of India. Fresh seafood as well as coconut play an most part in the local cuisine as they are abundant there. The inclusion of fresh ingredients add a flavorful yet unique taste to the recipes.
Goan Shrimp Cutlets are traditionally known as Goan Prawn Cutlets in English. Prawn is the word used for shrimp in India. Since shrimp is a common word that is used, I decided to name this recipe shrimp cutlet instead of prawn cutlet.
These shrimps cutlets are one of my favorite recipes to make because of how simple the ingredients as well as the process to make them is.
Texture of the Shrimp Cutlets
The texture of these shrimp cutlets is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The crispiness is because the cutlets are coated with semolina which is similar to the texture of cornmeal.
What are the other Names for Goan Shrimp Cutlets
Goan Shrimp Cutlets are actually known as Goan Prawn Cutlets. Prawn is the word they use for shrimp in India. These shrimps cutlets are also known as Prawn Dangar or Sungtache Dangar. Sungta means shrimps or prawns and Dangar/Dangaar means cutlets.

How to Serve the Goan Shrimp Cutlets
The Shrimp Cutlets can be eaten as a side with lunch or dinner. You can also serve it as an appetizer or starter. My husband likes to make a burger out of it. I will have that recipe for you in the future, so watch out for this space. My advice for serving; if you wish to serve it as an appetizer you can make smaller sized cutlets. If you want to serve it as a patty on a burger make the size bigger to about 3″ in size.
