Footwear from dead animals? Creepy right? Personally I am weirded by this. As much as I support art in fashion, using dead animals as shoes is plainly gross and bizarre. As per The Virtual Shoe Museum, German artist Iris Schieferstein, has been designing or using dead animals to create footwear for many years now.
Following the steps of taxidermy, her raw materials (animals pieces) are stripped out of remaining meat and bones. The skin is then sent to the tanner for preservation and finally heads off to her where she sculpts it into footwear by hand-stitching insoles and lining. One would think, people would shun her, but it is quite the opposite. Some of her footwear sells for as high as $6,000 and have a following among Lady Gaga and Dolce and Gabanna. I am sure PETA would be absolutely horrified. What do you think?
