Last Monday, I was invited to attend the Disney Social Media Moms On-the-Road Celebrations in New York City. It was held at The New Amsterdam Theater on 42nd street. This event was at 8.30 am and I found it was too early for me because that meant I would have to leave home at 5.45 am (and I did leave at that time).
However when I got there I saw other bloggers had reached there before me. After talking to some of them I found out one blogger had traveled from Maine while there was another one from Washington DC. Well after hearing this I did not think my travel time was that bad.
The registration opened at around 7.45 am, and we were all ushered down to the basement level. There was a breakfast buffet for all the bloggers which I think was great. As I ate I also made sure to socialize with other bloggers. We also had the opportunity to take pictures with our Mickey and Minnie head gears.
During breakfast we were allowed to mingle and trade pins. Then we were ushered upstairs. The seating for the bloggers were set up on a beautifully lit up stage which I thought was amazing.
Since this was my first Disney event, I was not sure what to expect. However, there were some amazing mix of speakers who shared their social media wisdom, told us what worked for them and what didn’t. The speakers included Jennifer Fickley Baker (Social Media Manager for Disney Parks), Victoria Lim (Managing Editor for Disney World PR), Greg Josken (Disney Theatrical), Marissa Kraxberger (VP, Creative for Ivanka Trump), Andrea Rojas and Megan Sayers (Babble.com).
Once all the speakers were done, Mickey came out and greeted all of the bloggers. What is a Disney event without Mickey, right? We were allowed to pose with Mickey and take pictures.
From there we were given a tour of The New Amsterdam Theater Costume Room. We were given a short introduction and told we could play around with all the costumes and props. I went straight for the lion king mask/head.
Can you believe the Lion King mask/head weighs only 4 oz and cost about $7000. That is why I was being very careful with it.
and then pretend to be Ariel in her bathtub…
The tour ended with a brief history of The New Amsterdam Theater. Over all it was a great event and ended up being a good learning experience. As I caught up with some of my blogger friends, I was glad I met with newer ones (many of whom I was only familiar online).

It sounds like you had quite a lot of fun Babs. Waking up that early to travel is something I’m used to doing and once you’ve done it a few times it easy peasy.

I was THIS close to going to that event, but it would have meant an overnight for me, so I chose to skip it this time. Glad you had fun 🙂
