I have received information and materials from JOHNSON & JOHNSON CONSUMER, Inc., McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division, LLC. The opinions stated are my own. This is a sponsored post. #PositivelyPrepared #BacktoSchool #CollectiveBias
August is a very exciting month for my girls. They anxiously look forward to receiving notifications from school about their teachers, supply lists, bus pass and so on. My husband usually is the one who takes care of back to school supplies. I, on the other hand am in charge of finishing up with all their doctor and dentist appointments. In addition to that I like to stock up on all of our medical and first aid supplies too.
Both my girls are very active in sports. TEE has already started her cross-country practices. ‘S’ will be starting her travel softball soon. So stocking up on medicines in a timely fashion is very important to me. Back to school also means the start of all kinds of viral infections and having the right kind of medicines and other first aid essentials is a must. Not only do I need all of the supplies, I also need them handy and available in a timely fashion.
For this reason, I decided to make a first aid kit/basket which would not only be convenient but also handy. I knew I wanted a container big enough to hold all of the medicines and supplies. Fortunately I found a wicker basket which was perfect for my project. I have to mention that before starting this project I headed over to Target to get all of the necessary supplies.
Anyway, I started off the project by wiping the wicker basket clean with a wet cloth.
Next, I spray painted the basket white. I applied about 3 coats of basic white paint allowing it to dry in between coats. I also made sure to paint it inside as well as the outside of the basket.
Once that was done, I went ahead and painted the first-aid safety symbol with some red paint. My little one ‘S’ was a such an amazing assistant. She helped by taking pictures of me while I worked on this project.
Once the paint on the sign had dried up, all I had to do was assemble the essential medicines and supplies in the first aid kit/basket.
The items I included in the basket are:
- Children’s TYLENOL®
- Children’s MOTRIN®
- Ultra Strength BENGAY® Cream
- First-Aid instruments kit with scissor, flashlight and tweezer
- cloth gauze pads
- antibacterial clear bandages
- antibiotic ointment
- roll of cloth tape
I shopped for all of my first aid kit supplies from Target. I trust Children’s TYLENOL® to reduce fever and relieve aches and pain such as headache, sore throat and toothache. Children’s MOTRIN® is another brand I have come to rely on especially when my girls need relief from pain or fever quickly.
I have also come to rely on Ultra Strength BENGAY® Cream for TEE (recommended for adults and kids 12 years and older). It offers her temporary relief from all her aches and pain brought on by her cross-country practices. Even I use it on those nagging and annoying lower backache I get from time to time. Off course I use it as directed and make sure to follow the instructions.
As for my first aid kit/basket, I love the way it turned out. All I have to do it is now tuck it into my medicine cabinet and use it when required.
So for back to school I am positively prepared with right pain relief from Target. What about you? How are you prepared?

I love this ides. It will be great to have everything in one place so that your not wasting time looking for the items you need. Just grab the basket and take care of it. I will be making several of these for different areas of our home and for our vehicles.

This sounds like a great idea, we are always have things happen or need bandaids or itch cream.

What a fun project for me and my girls…and an opportunity to explain the importance of having things on hand and what an emergency is. Thanks for sharing!

This is a fantastic idea … something I never thought of before. All those products are so important to have available. And I also love how you painted the big red cross on the front. Brilliant!

Looks like you covered all the important products, it’s nice to have it all together instead of spread out in the house or in a disorganized heap in the cabinet.

What a great idea! There have been many times we needed first aid supplies quickly for some cuts and injuries.

That is a terrific idea and something all parents should try doing. Without fail, kids end up with a bruise or two during the school year.

That’s a handy basket for all your first aid things. It would just have to be put on a high shelf so little ones couldn’t get into the medicines.
Judy Thomas
Always very important to have one of these handy with children.

I actually keep a first aid kit that I bought from Johnson & Johnson and have it stocked with most of these essentials. I even have a small one in my car in the event of an emergency.

That’s a cute little idea! I think this is much nicer than a plastic bin, and I love that it address all the minor things a kid might deal with.
