I found this recipe in a 2011 Family Circle magazine and tried it. Needless to say, I found it delicious and have been making this dip for Superbowl parties since then. It is a perfect hot dip recipe which I promise you will be a hit at your event.
Changes to the original recipe for crab dip
When I made it the first time, I did not have some ingredients that were listed for this recipe for cheesy crab dip. So I substituted it with other similar ingredients because I did not want the taste of this crab dip to change drastically from the original recipe in the magazine. I also added one of my own ingredients and if you read below you will understand why.
Ingredients for Cheesy Crab Dip
- 8 oz reduced-fat cream cheese (softened)
- 1/3 light mayonnaise
- 1/3 cup fat-free milk
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh dill
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (see Notes for substitute ingredient below)
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dry red chili flakes (optional)
- 3/4 lb imitation crab meat coarsely chopped (approx 1 1/2 cup)
- 6 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
- Sliced carrot, celery, cucumber and radishes for dipping.
How to prepare Baked Crab Dip
- Heat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a 9″ pie plate with non-stick cooking spray (Note: This is not required if you are using a foil/disposable pie plate).
- In a large bowl, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, milk, dill, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder.
- Mix them properly.
- Add the chopped imitation crab meat and mix it.
- Spoon the mixture evenly into the pie plate.
- Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes until lightly brown.
- Allow it to cool for a couple of minutes.
- Serve with sliced vegetables.
Substitute for Worcestershire Sauce
I substituted Worcestershire Sauce with 1/2 tsp soy sauce and 1/2 tsp fish sauce. However, after more research I found out you can also substitute Worceshtershire Sauce with Balsamic Vinegar or Coconut Aminos.
Substitute for Low-Fat Ingredients for the Crab dip
This recipe for crab dip is a low-fat recipe. But if you want you want switch the low-fat ingredients with ingredients. If I am making it for my family I use the low-fat version with fat-free ingredients. However, if I am making it for my get-together or events, I am okay with substituting regular fat ingredients since I figure there will be a lot more people will be eating and sharing this dip.
