Anjeer Khajur barfi is a sugar-free Indian sweet made with figs, dates, and loads of chopped nuts. It is a delightful little healthy dessert that you can savor guilt-free.
About the recipe
Fig is known as Anjeer in Hindi, while pitted dates are called Khajur. Barfi looks like a bar in appearance and has a texture of soft fudge.
I stumbled upon this recipe on Sanjeev Kapoor’s site and was intrigued. I had to try it. I am glad I tried this recipe. There is no added sugar in this anjeer – khajur barfi and considered healthy because of all the natural ingredients. My husband has a sweet tooth, and so do I. However, since I have so many health and hormonal problems, I try to reduce and sometimes avoid my intake of sweets and desserts. This barfi recipe is perfect for me.
I made some changes to this recipe to suit my needs and changed the proportions of the ingredients to include stuff I had in my kitchen pantry.
If you are looking for a healthy, low sugar, gluten-free dessert recipe, then this one is for you. I promise you will not be disappointed. It is also a perfect barfi recipe for Diwali. It does not take a long time to make and is easy too.

Ingredients for Anjeer Khajur Barfi
Anjeer: is the Hindi word for fig. For this recipe, I am using dried figs. These dried figs are available at Farmer’s markets as well as Indian stores.
Khajur: is the Hindi word for dates. I used pitted dates from Indian store. However, these dates are also available in Sam’s Club.
Chopped Nuts: I used a combination of chopped nuts like almonds, cashews, and pistachios. My kids are not big fans of nuts, so I reduced the quantity from the original recipe.
Ghee: Ghee adds the fat content required for this barfi recipe. It also adds an aroma and flavor to this barfi. I use home made ghee.
Silver Varq: is edible silver leaf added to make the burfi look pretty. Silver leaf itself does not have any taste. I buy the varq from Indian store, however, you can find it on. Amazon also (see here for the link) .

I would recommend storing anjeer-khajur barfi at room temperature for 2 days. However, you can store this barfi for at least a week in the refrigerator.
Yes, this anjeer-khajur barfi is gluten-free because I use only dry fruits and nuts. However, this barfi recipe is not vegan because I use ghee. Even though the quantity of ghee is not a lot, I would not recommend skipping it.
This barfi is not entirely sugar-free as it has the natural sweetness of the figs and dates. However, you don’t need to add additional sugar to this sweet/dessert.
